Summary for HealthiNation’s Tip: Acne

Acne isn’t a problem everyone outgrows. Many adults can have breakouts too. But, for most of us, there are steps we can take to clear up and prevent acne.

Here are some do’s and don’ts:

  • Never squeeze pimples. This can actually make the blemish worse, and can even cause infection.
  • Wash with warm water and mild soap twice a day. But, don’t scrub… nice and easy should do the trick.
  • Use “oil-free” hair and skin products. Oil can clog your skin pores – and that’s what causes acne in the first place.
  • And, if you’re going to use an acne cleanser make sure it contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.

If you’re still experiencing break-outs after these steps, make an appointment with your dermatologist.

Summary for HealthiNation’s Tip: Youthful Skin

Hosted by: Dr. Nancy Snyderman

As we get older, women and even some men are spending millions of dollars on products to restore their skin to that youthful state of firmness and elasticity. But can you buy youth in a bottle?

Well the truth is in the long run, it’s impossible. You’re never going to have the smooth, tight skin you had in your youth, no matter what lotion or potion you spend your money on. Collagen and elastin are the components that keep your skin elastic. But as we age, we lose that elasticity. And for those individuals who don’t treat their skin as well as they should, changes can be seen earlier—especially you smokers and you sun worshippers.

So if you want to maintain those youthful looks, make those lifestyle changes now!
