Psoriatic arthritis is related to a skin condition called psoriasis. While psoriasis is purely skin related, psoriatic arthritis affects both skin and joints causing pain, stiffness and immobility. There is no cure for this condition but there are treatments that can control psoriatic arthritis symptoms and help prevent joint damage. If left untreated, psoriatic arthritis can be debilitating. If you have it, it's important to work with your doctor. Psoriatic arthritis tends to affect different joints and in different patterns, the most common pattern being symmetric polyarthritis. Lastly, there is no test for the diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis, so your doctor must rely on other measures to make a proper diagnosis.
