Yep, it’s true: You don’t need a gym membership to get strong abs. (See also: best news ever.)  Once you’ve learned these simple core-toning moves, you can give your core a workout  just about anywhere: the living room, your backyard, the park, or in the office breakroom.

Okay, maybe not that last one.

Developing strong core muscles are worth way more than just a six-pack: A strong core gives you better stability during sudden movements, so you’ll be less likely to lose your balance and fall. In other words, no more klutzy moments.

In this episode of HIIT This, fitness instructor Kara Liotta has crafted a nine-minute interval workout with four core-busting moves, an active recovery (good ol’ jumping jacks), and an extra cardio push at the end. Interval training requires constant bursts of energy with no or few breaks, so you’ll also sneak in a mini cardio workout while working toward that flat belly. That two-in-one deal results in more calories burned per minute, so a nine-minute workout is all you’ll need. Simple.

This high-intensity core workout includes the following moves:

  • Russian twists

  • Reverse crunches

  • Spiderman plank

  • Crunches

  • Jumping jacks

  • Jump squats

  • Forearm plank
