These are so much better for your body than static stretching.
The purpose of stretching is to prepare your muscles for whatever activity has to be done. Dynamic stretching keeps your body in motion while stretching as well as mentally preparing you to go through the motions of the sport or workout of choice.
Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain our range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. In return when you call for the muscles they are too weak and unable to extend all the way.
In this Kickstart Workout tip, certified personal trainer Holly Rilinger explains why it is better for your body to warm up dynamically as opposed to stretching before you work out. Stretching also heals muscles faster after long and exhausting workouts. Holly demonstrates three key moves to effectively warm up, make sure to take deep breaths.

00:02.500 --> 00:04.030
Hey guys, Holly Rilinger here.
00:04.030 --> 00:06.609
So I see a lot of you guys stretching
before your workout,
00:06.609 --> 00:09.636
when actually what you should be doing is
warming up dynamically.
00:09.636 --> 00:16.809
00:16.809 --> 00:20.240
You want to warm the body up in the same
way we're going to work out.
00:20.240 --> 00:22.140
So I'm gonna show you a few ways to do
00:22.140 --> 00:23.550
First of all, knee grabs.
00:23.550 --> 00:25.860
Go ahead and grab your knee, alternating
00:25.860 --> 00:30.450
What we're doing here is warming up your
glutes, and warming up your hamstrings.
00:30.450 --> 00:32.940
From here what you wanna do is do ankle
00:32.940 --> 00:35.020
You can reach up with the other side for
00:36.620 --> 00:40.320
Right here we're warming up those quads,
those hip flexers.
00:40.320 --> 00:41.420
Now what about your upper body?
00:41.420 --> 00:42.870
00:42.870 --> 00:44.690
We can do arm circles here, right?
00:44.690 --> 00:45.460
Big arm circles.
00:45.460 --> 00:47.290
Start to open up those shoulders.
00:47.290 --> 00:48.380
Get that upper body warm.
00:48.380 --> 00:49.560
We'll go both directions here.
00:49.560 --> 00:53.000
And then we wanna warm up that core with a
simple walk out.
00:53.000 --> 00:55.700
So what we do is come take our hands to
the ground, feel that stretch in those
00:55.700 --> 01:02.300
hamstrings, walk it out, stabilize, walk
it right back up, and lift up and stretch.
01:02.300 --> 01:03.180
Right back down.
01:03.180 --> 01:04.590
Stretch into those hamstrings.
01:04.590 --> 01:05.530
01:07.150 --> 01:08.460
Right back up.
01:08.460 --> 01:11.170
These are just a few ways you can warm up
01:11.170 --> 01:13.920
Join me on HealthiNation for Kick Start
