Baked apple chips is a healthy snack alternative, even though there is sugar in fruit, it is fructose. The fructose combined with the fiber in fruit is more slowly digested by the body and is better for your blood sugar than glucose or sucrose, which is table sugar. Fiorella walks you through the process of preparing these crispy snacks, from picking out the right apples to how to slice and bake them. Apples are extremely rich in antioxidants and dietary fiber, the antioxidants are natures medicine for fighting cancer, diabetes and heart disease. It is very important to incorporate apples and other fruits into your diet, so drop the chips and pick up an apple!
- 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp recommended)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
InstructionsPreheat oven to 200 degrees. Using a knife, or a mandolin, holding the apple with the stem on the side, slice apple into thin, round chips.You can also use other fruits such as pears. Place parchment paper onto baking sheet. Lay the apple slices onto the baking sheets. Sprinkle slices with cinnamon. Bake for about 1 hour, then flip over the apple slices. Continue baking for another 1-2 hours. Flip occasionally, and bake until the slices are no longer moist. Allow to cool for 10-20 minutes. Keep in an air-tight container to store.
