Cheeseless Pizza

Prepare for the most unique pizza ever! Arielle demonstrates how to make an out of this world Cheeseless Pizza!

Can i get a slice of pizza? Hold the cheese!

In this episode of Clean Eating, Arielle Haspel shows you how to make a cheeseless pizza, so you can satisfy your pizza craving with a little less guilt! This delicious recipe has sweet potatoes, beans, onions, kale, and of course you can't forget your tomato sauce as the base.

First you're going to pour a little bit of olive oil into a pan as well as three cloves of garlic. Following, add in your sweet potatoes and then your black beans (you can use chickpeas as well if you'd like). Then add in your 1/2 white onion. Let these ingredients cook a little until you notice the sweet potatoes getting a tad bit soft. Meanwhile you can add a 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt and two leaves of kale, which will then cook down.

Once all the sweet potatoes are cooked, you're going to start decorating the pizza. For the crust you'll have some toasted sprouted grain tortillas or brown rice tortillas, whichever you prefer (anything but white or wheat flour!).

Before you start adding in the toppings, add a half cup of tomato sauce to your tortilla. For the tomato sauce, if you're not making it yourself, make sure you check the label before you buy it (some good tips are getting one without any added white sugar, canola oil, or soybean oil.)

Now you're ready to start adding on your toppings. Add on a little kale too! Once you're done, broil it in the oven for about 3 or 4 minutes unil the top is nice and crispy.

Once it's out, let it cool for a few minutes before enjoying.

This cheeseless pizza is both hearty and full of fiber and protein. For the first time ever, you're going to be feeling fit and healthy after eating some pizza!

Difficulty: Easy

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1-2 medium sweet potatoes, diced
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 4 brown rice tortillas (beige, not black variety)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 white onion, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

Instructions

In oven on high broil, place some brown rice tortillas on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Toast/broil these until crispy. In a large sauce pan, sauté garlic with a little oil. Add black beans, onions, sweet potatoes and sea salt, and cook until the potatoes are soft. Add some kale and continue to cook for approximately 3 minutes. Spread approximately 2 tablespoons of tomato sauce on each tortilla and then spread a few spoonfuls of sweet potato/bean mixture onto each toasted tortilla. Top it off with a little kale for nutritious garnish! Toast or broil your pizza in the oven until it's hot and serve it in a cast iron pan with a trivet underneath. Serves 4
