Kale is one of the most nutritious vegetables around, but the stem can be woody. Phoebe shows you a quick and easy technique for destemming kale.
Kale is one of the most nutritious vegetables around, especially as a nice replacement for lettuce and a regular salad. While the taste of these leafy greens is delicious, the stem does seem to be a little too woody.
Phoebe Lapine shows you an easy technique for destemming kale. Phoebe uses curly kale in this video, but this method can be applied to any variety of kale. What you have to do is first grab a hold to the stem, place your other hand around the stem as well, and just pull up! If it breaks off toward the top, usually it means that the stem that’s left is tender enough that you can eat it easily. Now that you know how to prepare kale, try out some new and cool kale recipes.
