- 00:00 [MUSIC]
- 00:02 Hi. You're watching Eating By Heart.
- 00:03 I'm Colombe.
- 00:04 And we're making guacamole and chips today.
- 00:06 [MUSIC]
- 00:09 And this recipe is even more heart-healthy because we're using less oil for
- 00:13 the chips.
- 00:14 So I'm starting out with some brown rice tortillas.
- 00:17 Cut them into small pieces.
- 00:19 All right and we're all set so toss these with just a small amount of olive oil and
- 00:26 olive oil is heart healthy because it's monounsaturated fat.
- 00:29 Beautiful, we'll sprinkle a little sea salt and
- 00:32 we're ready to pop these in the oven.
- 00:37 So while our chips are getting crispy in the oven, we'll start on our guacamole.
- 00:41 I'm using this wonderful mortar and pestle, and
- 00:44 it's a great way to just mix everything together at once.
- 00:47 So I'm gonna start with some tomatoes, some onions, red onions in this
- 00:53 case some jalapeno pepper for a little extra kick and some cilantro.
- 00:59 And then avocado, the star of my show.
- 01:01 This is such a great ingredient to use when you're cooking for heart health.
- 01:05 It's got lot's of fiber and again it's mono-saturated fat.
- 01:09 It's got lots of healthy fat.
- 01:11 You should use freely.
- 01:17 Now I'm gonna mash my avocado.
- 01:18 And once I've mashed it a little bit,
- 01:23 I'm gonna go ahead and put just a squeeze of lime.
- 01:27 You can't have guacamole without lime juice, right?
- 01:32 So now I'm just gonna make that sure all my ingredients at the bottom here are not
- 01:38 being forgotten.
- 01:41 And I like a chunky guacamole, but
- 01:43 if you like it more smooth in consistency you can just mash it a little longer.
- 01:47 But the chunks give it a more rustic feel,
- 01:48 especially when you're using a mortar and pestle.
- 01:52 It's just about as simple as that.
- 01:53 Let's check on our chips.
- 01:56 They're nice and crispy.
- 01:59 This looks delicious.
- 02:01 Just gonna dig right in.
- 02:04 This is the perfect classic guacamole recipe, and
- 02:09 I love the brown rice chips with them.
- 02:13 So much healthier too.
- 02:16 Thanks for watching Eating By Heart.
- 02:19 Hope to see you again soon.
