How to Juice a Grapefruit Without A Juicer
A few tricks will help you get every bit of juice.

Nobody can deny the effectiveness of an actual juicer, but honestly, they can be such a pain. Not only are they an investment, but they’re a drag to clean and take up precious counter space.
If you just want an occasional fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice, it’s easier to do it by hand. But hang on—before you start squeezing, there’s a few things you should know.
In this video, Phoebe Lapine shows the most effective way to juice a grapefruit by hand. The benefit of juicers is that they manage to extract every last drop of juice from the fruit, but Phoebe’s tips can help you accomplish that with a simple fork and some elbow grease.
First, roll the grapefruit on the counter while applying a little downward pressure. This helps loosen up all the juice inside so you won’t have to squeeze as hard later. (The same trick works if you’re juicing a lemon or lime!)
Cut the grapefruit in half crosswise with a large chef’s knife. Hold the grapefruit half in one hand and a fork in the other. While squeezing the grapefruit, twist the fork around the inside to make the juice come out a little more easily (read: less squeezing!).
These tips should help you get as much juice from the grapefruit as possible. You can enjoy the juice straight, or you could add a touch of it to some seltzer for a healthy soda alternative.

00:00:01.392 --> 00:00:05.592
[SOUND] Fresh grapefruit juice is amazing
to have in the morning as a drink, or
2
00:00:05.592 --> 00:00:08.099
even to throw in your
salad as a vinaigrette.
3
00:00:08.099 --> 00:00:09.216
I'm Phoebe Lapine and
4
00:00:09.216 --> 00:00:13.130
I'm going to show you how to get
the most out of your fresh grapefruit.
5
00:00:13.130 --> 00:00:16.446
In order to get the most out of
your citrus, you want to roll it on
6
00:00:16.446 --> 00:00:20.659
the countertop and apply a little bit of
pressure to loosen up all of that juice.
7
00:00:20.659 --> 00:00:23.459
Just take a big chef's knife and
cut it in half.

9
00:00:26.918 --> 00:00:31.520
Now you can just use your hand, all
your brawn, and squeeze it into a bowl.
10
00:00:31.520 --> 00:00:34.238
What I like to do though
is to take a fork and
11
00:00:34.238 --> 00:00:39.153
kind of use it to twist the grapefruit and
get all of that juice out of there.
12
00:00:39.153 --> 00:00:41.813

13
00:00:41.813 --> 00:00:43.693
This works with lemon and oranges as well.

15
00:00:45.633 --> 00:00:48.313
And voila,
some beautiful fresh grape fruit juice.
