Lemon Ginger Tea

Arielle Haspel shows you how to make cleansing lemon ginger tea. Lemon ginger tea is the perfect way to start your day and boost your metabolism.

Today on Clean Eating with Arielle Haspel, you'll be making a simple but delicious citrus tea made with just two ingredients: lemon and ginger. This warm, cleansing lemon ginger tea is a perfect way to wake up and start your day.

You won't need any tea bags or any sweeteners since you will be using only fresh lemon and ginger. First take half of a lemon and cut it into either wedges or round slices. You can prepare this tea a couple of different ways. The first way is to put the pieces of lemon and ginger into a pot of boiling water. If you are making a single serving, you can put the ingredients into a mug and pour boiling water from a kettle directly over the ingredients in the cup. 

Now cut a piece of ginger approximately 1 inch in size. Arielle shows you the best way to peel ginger using a spoon. This way is safe, easy and effective, since you won't have to use a knife or a peeler. All you have to do is use the sharp back edge of a spoon and the ginger peels perfectly!

Many people have difficulty drinking the amount of water that their body requires. Arielle recommends drinking about half your bodyweight in ounces of water. This hydrating lemon ginger tea is ideal if you get tired of drinking plain water, or if you are just aiming to drink more water during the day.

Lemon ginger tea is the perfect thing to drink first thing in the morning, since it helps with digestion and kick-starts your metabolism. For a stronger citrus flavor, you can use a whole lemon. If desired you can also use more ginger for a spicy flavor. 

Next you can carefully pour the boiling water over the ingredients in a mug. Let it steep for at least 3-4 minutes so that the flavors infuse the tea. Enjoy your refreshing lemon ginger tea!

Ingredients
  • ½ fresh squeezed lemon
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, peeled
Instructions
Boil water. Cut the lemon into slices or wedges. Cut a 1 inch piece of ginger and peel using a spoon. Add the ingredients to a mug and pour boiling water over the ingredients. Let it sit for 3-4 minutes to steep and cool slightly, then enjoy. Serves 1
