If you like your chicken wings spicy, this is the perfect recipe for you. In this episode of Eating by Heart, Colombe Jacobsen demonstrates how to make Thai-style baked chicken wings. This is a healthy spin on everyone’s favorite game-day food, since you will be making baked chicken wings instead of deep-fried chicken wings.
Flavorful and spicy ingredients like coriander, lime juice and cilantro take this recipe for Thai chicken wings to the next level. Start by mixing flour, coriander and sea salt in a bowl. Toss the chicken wings in this flour mixture to evenly coat. This will give your baked chicken wings a nice texture, and will create a coating for the Thai-style hot sauce to absorb into.
Even though chicken wings do have more fat than chicken breasts, a lot of the extra fat will cook off and the wings will have a nice flavor. Spread the chicken wings onto a baking pan, making sure not to crowd them so that they will brown evenly and beautifully. Place in the oven and bake at 500 degrees for about 45 minutes.
Now it’s time to make the Thai-style sauce that will coat your baked chicken wings. Colombe uses melted coconut oil, a nutritious oil that has antibacterial properties and helps lower bad cholesterol. Add some red Thai curry sauce and fish sauce to bring out more complex flavors. Finally add hot sauce for that spicy kick found in classic chicken wings.
When your baked chickens wings are sizzling and ready, remove from the oven, drop them into the bowl with the Thai-style sauce and toss to coat. Make sure the wings are covered evenly with the delicious sauce. To finish, add fresh cilantro and a squeeze of lime to elevate all the flavors. You’re going to love the amazing flavor combinations in these Thai-style baked chicken wings.
- 2 pounds chicken wings
- 2 ½ tablespoons red chili hot sauce
- ½ tablespoon fish sauce
- 1 teaspoon Thai red curry paste
- 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons melted Coconut Oil
InstructionsPreheat the oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large bowl mix the flour, salt and coriander. Toss in the chicken wings to evenly coat with the flour mixture. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and then rub with olive oil, spreading to coat evenly. Lay wings out on the baking sheet, evenly spaced. Bake for about 45 minutes turning once, and brush another layer of olive oil over top. Mix the coconut oil, fish sauce, chili sauce and curry paste in a bowl. When the chicken wings are crispy on the outside, remove from the oven and toss in sauce. Serve with coconut rice and sprinkle with cilantro. Serves 4-6

00:00:00.025 --> 00:00:04.880
[SOUND] Today we're doing a healthy spin
on chicken wings.
00:00:04.880 --> 00:00:07.218
I'm Colombe, and you're watching Eating By
00:00:07.218 --> 00:00:10.094
00:00:10.094 --> 00:00:12.647
Our recipe is Thai-style chicken wings, so
00:00:12.647 --> 00:00:16.073
we're using curry, we're using coriander,
00:00:16.073 --> 00:00:20.860
cilantro, all sorts of spicy ingredients
that'll really elevate this recipe.
00:00:20.860 --> 00:00:25.840
So I'm gonna start with flour, coriander
and sea salt.
00:00:25.840 --> 00:00:28.980
And I'm gonna put that all in one little
bowl, mix it up,
00:00:28.980 --> 00:00:31.910
and this is gonna help create a nice
00:00:31.910 --> 00:00:36.954
My chicken wings will go into the bowl,
along with that mix.
00:00:36.954 --> 00:00:39.030
And then I'll just toss it to evenly coat.
00:00:39.030 --> 00:00:41.670
So, this is gonna give something for
00:00:41.670 --> 00:00:44.460
that hot sauce that we put on later to
00:00:44.460 --> 00:00:46.590
Then we'll go ahead and lay this out.
00:00:46.590 --> 00:00:52.570
And, chicken wings have more fat content
than, chicken breasts, for example.
00:00:52.570 --> 00:00:54.280
But, a lot of that fat is gonna cook off.
00:00:54.280 --> 00:00:55.870
It's gonna give us lots of good flavor.
00:00:55.870 --> 00:00:57.580
And be sure that you don't crowd the pan,
00:00:57.580 --> 00:01:00.650
cuz you want them to brown evenly, and
00:01:00.650 --> 00:01:04.450
So, we'll put these in the oven at 500 for
about 45 minutes.
00:01:09.070 --> 00:01:13.970
Now it's time to bring all those flavorful
Thai spices together to coat the chicken
00:01:13.970 --> 00:01:17.450
wings when they come out with this
beautiful sauce, melted coconut oil.
00:01:17.450 --> 00:01:20.540
I'm using coconut oil, because it's
00:01:20.540 --> 00:01:22.290
It's got antibacterial properties.
00:01:22.290 --> 00:01:24.520
It also helps lower bad cholesterol.
00:01:24.520 --> 00:01:26.890
I've got some red Thai curry paste.
00:01:26.890 --> 00:01:30.830
This is a blend of all different Thai
spices, some lemongrass,
00:01:30.830 --> 00:01:33.970
some curry, I've got some fish sauce.
00:01:33.970 --> 00:01:36.120
Add a little bit more complexity of
00:01:36.120 --> 00:01:38.110
And then I've got hot sauce,
00:01:38.110 --> 00:01:42.720
finally, to add that spice that you have
in your traditional chicken wings.
00:01:42.720 --> 00:01:44.370
I'm gonna transfer it to the bigger bowl.
00:01:44.370 --> 00:01:47.609
Look at that, I can smell that chili.
00:01:47.609 --> 00:01:53.989
And now it's time for me to check on those
00:01:53.989 --> 00:01:56.260
00:01:56.260 --> 00:01:57.080
00:01:57.080 --> 00:02:02.100
All we need to do know is, drop the
chicken wings in the sauce.
00:02:04.120 --> 00:02:05.199
Give them a good toss.
00:02:06.220 --> 00:02:11.500
You want to evenly coat the chicken wings
with that beautiful, flavorful sauce,
00:02:11.500 --> 00:02:14.330
and finally add the cilantro.
00:02:14.330 --> 00:02:17.850
It smells so good.
00:02:19.390 --> 00:02:21.890
So let's try these beautiful wings.
00:02:24.010 --> 00:02:27.340
A little spritz of lime, just to lift all
00:02:31.970 --> 00:02:33.740
This is so flavorful.
00:02:33.740 --> 00:02:36.740
I love the way all the curry comes
together with the hot sauce and
00:02:36.740 --> 00:02:38.570
it's a little messy, but delicious.
00:02:38.570 --> 00:02:40.030
Thanks for watching Eating By Heart.
00:02:40.030 --> 00:02:40.920
00:02:40.920 --> 00:02:42.037
Hope to see you again soon.
00:02:42.037 --> 00:02:47.549
