ADHD Treatment

ADHD treatment often consists of a combination of ADHD therapy, medication for ADHD and a strong support system both at home and at school.

As there is no cure for ADHD, the only way to manage the condition is through treatment of symptoms. The best ADHD treatment option is a combination of ADHD therapy, medication for ADHD and a strong support system both at home and at school. In this video, Dr. Preeti Parikh discusses behavioral therapy, psychotherapy, family therapy as well as medications such as stimulants, antidepressants and NRIs. Typically, stimulants are the first drug of choice, but they can cause addiction and side effects. However, addictions are very rare if patients follow the dosage prescribed by their doctors. In regards to therapy, behavioral therapy is often used in which a reward system is used to reinforce positive actions, and a punishment system is used to prevent negative actions. Family therapy is also common in order to teach parents and siblings about the condition.
