Aortic Stenosis Symptoms
The symptoms can range from no symptoms, to stages of severe aortic stenosis.

Aortic Stenosis can be difficult to diagnose early, and many people are unaware that they have Aortic Stenosis in its early stages. In this video, Dr. Preeti Parikh overviews the symptoms of Aortic Stenosis.
The symptoms can range from no symptoms, to stages of severe aortic stenosis. Aortic Stenosis is often diagnosed by your doctor when they hear a heart murmur. A murmur is an extra sound the heart makes and most of the time, a heart murmur is due to a heart valve not working properly.
Other symptoms of Aortic Stenosis include chest pain or tightness in the chest, feeling faint, shortness of breath, fatigue and heart palpitations.
Aortic Stenosis can also lead to heart failure. Some of the early signs of heart failure include fatigue, shortness of breath, and swollen ankles and feet.
In infants and children, Aortic Stenosis can often have no symptoms. Children may often experience fatigue or may have chest pain during physical activity. If you or your child experiences any of these symptoms, it is important to visit your doctor.

00:00:02.317 --> 00:00:05.667
Aortic stenosis can be difficult
to diagnose early, and
3
00:00:05.667 --> 00:00:08.823
many people are unaware they
have it in early stages.

00:00:13.151 --> 00:00:18.290
Hi, I'm Dr. Preeti Parikh,
Chief Medical Editor at Healthy Nation.
5
00:00:18.290 --> 00:00:22.170
The symptoms of aortic stenosis can
range from no symptoms to severe in
6
00:00:22.170 --> 00:00:23.880
the advanced stages.
7
00:00:23.880 --> 00:00:26.360
And since there are no
real early warning signs,
8
00:00:26.360 --> 00:00:30.630
it is often diagnosed when you see
your doctor and they hear a murmur.
9
00:00:30.630 --> 00:00:33.300
A murmur is an extra sound
the heart makes, and
10
00:00:33.300 --> 00:00:37.260
most of the time it is due to
a heart valve not working properly.
11
00:00:37.260 --> 00:00:43.070
Other symptoms can include chest pain or
tightness in the chest, feeling faint,
12
00:00:43.070 --> 00:00:49.400
shortness of breath, especially with
exertion, fatigue and heart palpitations.
13
00:00:49.400 --> 00:00:52.870
Aortic stenosis can also
lead to heart failure.
14
00:00:52.870 --> 00:00:56.810
Early signs of heart failure include
fatigue, shortness of breath and
15
00:00:56.810 --> 00:00:58.740
swollen ankles and feet.
16
00:00:58.740 --> 00:01:02.720
In infants and children,
aortic stenosis may have no symptoms.
17
00:01:02.720 --> 00:01:06.280
Depending on how narrow
the aortic valve is, they may
18
00:01:06.280 --> 00:01:11.540
become tired easily during play or might
have chest pain during physical activity.
19
00:01:11.540 --> 00:01:15.940
If you or your child experiences
any of these signs or symptoms,
20
00:01:15.940 --> 00:01:20.780
visit a doctor, especially if your
family has a history of heart problems.
21
00:01:20.780 --> 00:01:22.286
Thanks for watching.
