Back to School: Food Allergies

Raising and feeding a child with food allergies can be hard enough at home, but what about at school?

Raising and feeding a child with food allergies can be hard enough at home, but what about at school? In this video, Dr. Preeti Parikh provides a few simple tips to keep your child safe. First, pack lunches and snacks yourself. While trading cookies in the lunchroom is fun, make sure your child is only eating what you pack at home. Notify the school of your child’s allergies and create an action plan in case their allergy is triggered. Provide instructions for medication use in case of an emergency such as swelling, limited breathing or even anaphylaxis. Food allergies can be scary but if you plan ahead of time, school will be a place where your child can learn and have fun.
