Dietitian Tips for Living with IBS

Dietitian and author Frances Largeman Roth shares her best tips for managing your Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common disorder that affects the large intestine (colon). Irritable bowel syndrome commonly causes cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea and constipation. IBS is a chronic condition that you will need to manage long term.

Dietitian and author Frances Largeman Roth discusses what it is like to suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and shares her best tips for managing your own IBS. Be sure to read nutrition labels carefully and stay away from sugar alcohol, sorbitol, maltitol, or any additive ending in –ol. When you are newly diagnosed with IBS, Frances advises to start a food diary for at least a week, noting how each food makes you feel.
