This Healthy Habit Helps Treat Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Why derms care about the number on your scale.

Dermatologist Dr. Bobby Buka explains who can be affected by Hidradenitis Suppurativa and provides you with some tips on how to manage this condition.

Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) affects patients of all backgrounds, genders, and ethnicity. It is a little more common in skin of color as well as in patients that are heavier set.

Dr. Buka explains that HS patients normally do need to keep their weight down during treatment because with an improved body mass index, they have a far less severe disease course. Keeping your weight down as well as having a regular exercise regimen these are both steps to decrease the severity of this condition.

Another tip for if you are living with HS is to to find a board certified dermatologist. Finally, it is helpful to start a regimen of biologics or even more conventional therapies like oral antibiotics to help treat HS.
