Meningitis Overview

What is meningitis? In this video, you will hear about the causes of meningitis, as well as the symptoms of meningitis and the types of meningitis.

What is meningitis? Meningitis is inflammation of the lining surrounding the brain and spinal cord, called the meninges.

Meningitis can affect anyone from newborns to adults and is usually caused by an infection from a bacteria, virus or fungus that travels from another part of the body through the blood stream to the brain. Depending on the different causes or types of meningitis, the inflammation can clear up on its own. But in some serious cases it can lead to complications and even death. In this video, Dr. Preeti Parikh explores the causes of meningitis and explains what makes this inflammation dangerous. In addition, she discusses the symptoms of meningitis, including fever, severe headache, stiff neck and nausea.
