Meningitis is a serious and often contagious condition. But there are steps you can take to minimize your risk of developing it. In this video, Dr. Preeti Parikh shares various meningitis facts, including tips on preventing meningitis. She answers questions on meningitis spread, as well as on what to do to keep meningitis out of your life. Sharing foods, utensils, drinks and makeup can all spread germs and cause meningitis, so it is best to limit your sharing of germs with others. In addition, it is best to wash hands often to practice good hygiene and to get the meningitis vaccine, especially for people between the ages of 11 and 18. This age gap is especially important, as meningitis is most often associated with teens and young adults who are in close quarters with others, such as in the case of locker rooms and college dorms.
