In this video, Amanda Dunbar talks about all the ways her life improved since she quit smoking cigarettes. Soon after quitting smoking, she noticed that food tastes and smells a lot better. She has also noticed several positive long term effects. She can walk faster and walk longer, and she has an extra kick in her step. She feels motivated to exercise regularly, and to cut out unhealthy foods and replace them with healthier options. After she quit smoking, Dunbar says that it was a natural progression to start making healthier choices in other areas of her life.

For those looking for advice on how to quit smoking, Dunbar says it’s good to pick a date to quit, one that is not near a stressful event as that is a recipe for failure. She suggests finding ways to get out of your smoking routine by replacing smoking with another activity. She used to smoke a cigarette after getting off the subway and walking to work every morning, but began to listen to music instead. The first two weeks after she quit smoking were difficult and she felt her chest burning. But a couple of weeks afterwards, her chest no longer longer burned. Dunbar notes that it is challenging to change your lifestyle, and that you have to be motivated and mentally prepared.

There are many products available that can help you quit smoking. Talk to your doctor and see which treatments can work for you. Dunbar’s best advice is to take things one day at a time. Each day without cigarettes is a success, and you will feel much better about yourself once you can finally quit smoking and move on!
