Risk Factors & Diagnosis

Certain individuals have a greater risk of developing Ankylosing Spondylitis. Genetics strongly determine who will get AS and the gene HLA-B27 is associated with AS. Gender is also a factor as men have AS at 2-3 times the rate of women. It also affects men and women differently as women see more symptoms in the neck while men experience problems in the lower back and hips. In this video, Dr. Preeti Parikh explains how a doctor will go about diagnosing Ankylosing Spondylitis.
