Signs of COPD

COPD is not a reversible condition but it is treatable if diagnosed early. Shortness of breath is the most common symptom and it gets worse with age. If you have familial emphysema, you may see symptoms much earlier than usual. Other symptoms include a chronic cough, coughing up blood (hemoptysis), as well as wheezing and chest tightness. In this video, Dr. Holly Atkinson explains how these symptoms affect your every day life. COPD can be confused with asthma so it's important to get the proper diagnosis. The worst thing you can do for your condition is to continue smoking with COPD. The biggest step one can take in treating their COPD is to stop smoking. Dr. Atkinson explains how this may be difficult or take a few trys, but it will slow the progression of COPD.
