The 9 Lung Cancer Symptoms People Ignore

Dr. Abraham Chachoua, the Jay and Isabel Fine Professor of Oncology at NYU Langone Medical Center's Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center, explains the different symptoms of lung cancer are and how to go about noticing these symptoms.

Dr. Chachoua explains that the symptoms of lung cancer can be variable. He says that symptoms depend very much on the location of the lung cancer as well as the amount of cancer that has spread throughout the body. Quite commonly, some cancer patients present themselves with non-specific symptoms, such as loss of appetite and unexplained weight loss. These symptoms may occur due to any type of cancer, which is why they are considered non-specific.

When the cancer is found in the lung, the specific symptoms include: coughing, coughing up blood, and shortness of breath. In the case that the person is coughing up blood, it is highly advised to seek medical attention immediately and to not ignore it.
