Tip: Stress-Free Family Car Trip

Taking the whole family up to your mother’s house for Thanksgiving sounds good in theory but dealing with meltdowns from your kids in the backseat can be stressful. Author and parenting expert Ann Pleshette Murphy says these can be avoided by doing a few key things. First, leaving at night or during your child’s naptime is likely to give you some more quiet time. If your schedule doesn’t allow for that, make sure you remember to keep them busy. Toys are helpful as well as audio storybooks and even sing-alongs. And don’t underestimate a game like car bingo to keep everyone engaged on your road trip. Most importantly, make sure your child is dressed comfortably and plan those rest stops ahead of time because even babies have to stretch their little legs.
