Multiple Sclerosis Treatment Options: A Guide

Learn about the right therapies to relieve MS symptoms.

In this video, Dr. Paul Knoepflmacher explains the four types of Multiple Sclerosis: relapse-remitting, secondary progressive, primary progressive, and progressive relapsing. He also discusses treatment for these conditions including both drug and occupational therapies.

If you MS symptoms flare up, there are a number of options to lessen the severity of the attack and to help slow the progression of the disease. For example, there are drug therapies and physical or occupational therapies available to help with the symptoms. The FDA has approved several medications that target the body's immune response, and modify or decrease the frequency and intensity of attacks.

Treating multiple sclerosis after a definitive diagnosis of MS is important since lessening the frequency of attacks can cut down the damage and scar in the central nervous system, which will further slow the progression of the disease. Yet, MS is rarely fatal and most people with MS live a normal lifespan.
