Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a painful and frustrating condition. It can either produce diarrhea or constipation but almost always creates uncomfortable bloating.

It is a very common, but treatable condition, yet it can often take some time so patience is key. In this video, Dr. Mark Babyatsky explains how IBS works and what you can do to treat this condition. He explains some symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, including bloating, a change in bowel habits, a feeling of discomfort, and either loose stools or hard stools.

Most patients with IBS develop the symptoms between the ages of 10 and 15 and age 30. There is no definitive test used to diagnose irritable bowel syndrome, so you'll need some patience as you and your doctor work together to get your symptoms under control.
