The purpose of stretching is to prepare your muscles for whatever activity has to be done. Dynamic stretching keeps your body in motion while stretching as well as mentally preparing you to go through the motions of the sport or workout of choice. 

Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain our range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. In return when you call for the muscles they are too weak and unable to extend all the way. 

In this Kickstart Workout tip, certified personal trainer Holly Rilinger explains why it is better for your body to warm up dynamically as opposed to stretching before you work out. Stretching also heals muscles faster after long and exhausting workouts. Holly demonstrates three key moves to effectively warm up, make sure to take deep breaths.
