Mango can be tricky. They have a thin skin and a humongous pit right in the middle, all this gets in the way of you enjoying this delicious fruit.
Frances Largeman-Roth shows us how to peel a mango in just a couple easy steps, making sure you get the most out of it possible. The first step is to look for the little nose of the mango (a bump near the center of the mango.) This bump will show you where the seed of the mango is. The two sides of the seed of the mango are called the cheeks of the mango. You're going to slice down these sides with a chef's knife and you'll end up with two clean cuts of the mango and the pit. You can make sure to get some more meat out of the sides until you feel you've gotten the most of this delicious fruit and you should be ready to cut the sides into mango pieces.
You're going make little vertical slices on the cheek and then horizontal ones right over those to make a cross-hatch pattern on the slice. All you have to do then is bend the mango cheek the opposite way and slice out those pieces either with the same chef's knife or just with a smaller one if you'd like.
Now you know how to peel a mango and get the most of this juicy and delicious fruit. You're then all set to make a mango salsa, add these onto a smoothie or fruit salad or maybe just have these mango chunks on their own for a quick summer snack. Enjoy!
