When thinking about our diet, we often overlook the need for water. In this video, Registered Dietitian Lynn Goldstein explains the benefits of drinking water, and why ignoring water can be a big mistake. The human body is 60% water and needs to be replenished several times a day.
While there is no magic number on how much water you should drink or the daily recommended water intake, be aware that once you feel thirsty you are already on your way to dehydration. As a result, it's important to drink water before you feel thirsty. In addition, when it's hot out or if you've been exercising, you'll want to increase your water intake.
Water is important because it carries nutrients to our cells and helps flush out toxins. Foods like lettuce, watermelon, broccoli, and grapefruit contain over 90% water, so adding them to your diet will not only fill you up, but also help you stay hydrated!
