In this video, Amanda Dunbar tells her personal success story of how she quit smoking after twelve years of smoking cigarettes. She started smoking in high school. At first she found smoking repulsive, but she eventually got up to a ‘pack a day’ habit.
Dunbar began attempts to quit smoking because she didn't like the fact that cigarettes had control over her. She recounts how lighting a cigarette first thing in the morning would make her feel physically and mentally lousy. She knew she needed a change so she met with her doctor and developed a plan to quit smoking that worked for her. Her doctor discussed several different options to quit smoking, and Dunbar decided to try prescription pills.
Dunbar took it one day at a time. Each day without smoking was a milestone for her, and before she knew it two months had passed. Even at the two month mark when Dunbar ran out of her prescription she had second thoughts and was not sure that the decision to quit smoking was right for her. However, she ultimately decided that feeling healthy was much better than the alternative.
