You may have heard the term, but what is clean eating? Arielle Haspel discusses her 5 simple rules about what we can eat, rather than what we can’t eat.
Clean eating rule number 1: Choose organic whenever possible. You can have cheese and you can have meat, but make sure that it’s organic and grass-fed when possible. Look for labels that say pasture-raised and certified humane.
Clean eating rule number 2: Don’t forget to drink water. Clean eating isn’t only about what you eat, it’s also about what you drink. It’s all about what you are putting in your body.
Clean eating rule number 3: Read labels. Just because it says ‘healthy’ on the outside, doesn’t mean that it’s going to make you feel healthy on the inside. You can have pasta and you can have bread, but make sure you read the ingredients. If you can’t pronounce it, think twice about putting it into your body. Say no to white sugar, white flour and processed oils like canola, vegetable and soy bean oil.
Clean eating rule number 4: Choose healthy fats like avocado, nuts, seeds, olive oil and coconut oil. You can also eat lean organic meats and wild fish.
Clean eating rule number 5: Practice portion control. By chewing well and sitting down while you eat, you may eat slower and help prevent overeating. You can still eat the foods you want, and not feel deprived. Get excited for a cleaner, happier and healthier you!
