Severe snoring can be a sign of a serious disorder called sleep apnea. In this video, Dr. Nancy Snyderman explains the condition. People with sleep apnea stop breathing while they are asleep, usually for around 10 seconds and this process continues to happen throughout the night. Dr. Snyderman explains that while there are three types of apnea, the most common is called obstructive apnea. Side effects include high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke.
