Daily Stretching Exercises
We can all benefit from stretching and additional felxibility. Certified Fitness Instructor Jason Schaeffer shares his tips for some simple daily stretching exercises.
There are many benefits to stretching regularly as it may help prevent injuries by increasing the range of motion for your joints, and can actually help reduce stress by relaxing your muscles.
A streching routine is not only important as part of any fitness routine, but having a daily stretching routine is highly recommended as well. Jason shares a few tips to get the most out of your stretching routine. First, don't stretch cold muscles - walk around a little bit and begin your morning routine, then start your stretching excercises.
Jason then runs thorugh a few simple stretching exercises you can do every day. For tight hamstrings, sit on the floor with your legs extended and your back straight - then lean gently forward until you feel a stretch. Hold the stretch for 10 to 30 seconds. Remember to breathe and take your time to encourage your mucles to relax and lengthen.
To stretch your chest mucles, stand with the fron of your body touching a wall. extend one of your arms at shoulder height, keeping the other arm at your side. Begin to move your body slowly in the opposite direction of your extended arm until you feel a stretch. Uncomfortable is OK, but not pain, so pay attention to how far you stretch. Alternate to the other side, and go back and forth 2 -4 times.
